Tour of the Basque Country: Alaphilippe narrowly beaten – Roglic stays ahead

Amurrio (AP) – Road bike world champion Julian Alaphilippe just missed his second day’s win in a row at the Tour of the Basque Country.

The 29-year-old was sprinted over by the Spaniard Pello Bilbao shortly before the finish line on the third stage over 181.7 kilometers from Llodio to Amurrio. The Russian Alexander Wlassow from the German Bora-hansgrohe team took third place. Alaphilippe won stage two on Tuesday, earning his first win of the season.

Vuelta champion Primoz Roglic successfully defended his lead in the overall standings. The Slovenian is still five seconds ahead of Belgian talent Remco Evenepoel.
