Tour of Lombardy amateurs: the Belgian Segaert beats the world champion Fedorov

Alec Segaert, 19-year-old Belgian from Lendelede (West Flanders), who runs for the Lotto-Soudal Under 23 team, won the 94th edition of the Piccolo Giro di Lombardia, international U23 starting and finishing in Oggiono (Lecco). In the three-man sprint he beat the world champion Yevgeniy Fedorov, Astana professional (he raced the Vuelta alongside Nibali) and the French Jordan Labrosse (Ag2r Citroen Continental). Segaert succeeds the French Paul Lapeira in the roll of honor and, more than winning, he dominated.

The race As the second lap crossed the finish line, the action of 26 riders that characterized the first part of the race: it was the world champion Fedorov who blew up the race in the company of Labrosse, Marcellusi, Parisini, Menegotto, Busatto, Carrò , Ciuccarelli, Stehli, Serrano, Tsarenko, Sekkak, Vandenstorme, Crescioli, Venturini, Pronskiy, Zangerle, Dewinter, Romele, Foldager, later joined by other twenty, including Segaert. On Ghisallo the Belgian stretches, to which the world champion Fedorov, the Ethiopian Berhe, the French Labrosse and the Colombian Lopez respond. In pursuit, Villa, Busatto and Pinarello who, however, do not close the gap. Segaert, Fedorov and Labrosse, at – 7 km, launch the decisive attack and in the sprint there is no story. Segaert, who in 2021 was European junior champion in Trento, starts in the lead and beats the world champion Fedorov, taking the ninth victory of the season: he is the European champion of the time trial. First Italian was Francesco Busatto from Vicenza, fifth.
