Africa’s cycling hero Biniam Girmay will be riding for the NSN Cycling Team from next season. The successor to the previous team Israel-Premier Tech, which will be licensed in Switzerland, announced this on Monday. Girmay receives a three-year contract.

The 25-year-old Eritrean, who became the first African to win the green jersey of the Tour de France in 2024, succeeds Pascal Ackermann, who moved to Jayco AlUla, at his new employer. The veteran from Kandel in the Palatinate had rarely met expectations as the number one sprinter in the team.

Girmay’s previous team Intermarché-Wanty announced its departure last week. Girmay made history for the Belgians when he won three stages of the 2024 Tour and became the first African to win a classification jersey.

The cycling year 2025 was disappointing for Girmay, as he remained completely winless.
