After 133.6 kilometers through the wine-growing regions of Champagne, the Dane Cecilie Ludwig (FDJ) won the third stage of the Tour de Femmes on Tuesday (07/26/2022). Shortly before the finish on the stage from Reims to Épernay, Ludwig made the decisive move and relegated the overall leader Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) to second place.
“A super comeback after crash day”
In the end, Vos lost two seconds to Ludwig, but remains in the yellow jersey. In the overall standings, she is now 16 seconds ahead of Italian Silvia Persico (Valcar-Travel&Service) and 21 seconds ahead of Katarzyna Niewiedoma (Poland/Canyon-SRAM), who crossed the finish line in third place in Éperney.
Shortly after her triumph, Cecilie Ludwig said in tears of happiness: “It was a super comeback after the crash day yesterday. I loved how our team kept the spirit and fighting spirit despite everything. And now I’m the winner of a Tour de France stage – it’s easy incomprehensible.”
Bad luck for Liane Lippert
German road bike champion Liane Lippert (Team DSM) was very unlucky, having stayed in the leading group for a long time. In a left-hand bend around 15 kilometers from the finish, her front wheel slipped and she fell onto the asphalt. Apparently she was uninjured, but in the end she fell about a minute and a half behind the stage winner.
