Road world champion Julian Alaphilippe’s losing streak just doesn’t want to end. The Frenchman announced on Monday that he had been infected with the corona virus and therefore had to retire from the Tour de Wallonie.

The 30-year-old had a bad fall near Liège-Bastogne-Liège in April and consequently missed the Tour de France. The Tour of Belgium was only the second race since his fall.

The infection is also a setback for Alaphilippe’s World Cup preparation. The classics specialist wants to win the rainbow jersey for the third time at the end of September in Wollongong, Australia.
