Tadej Pogacar is tackling his third consecutive Tour de France victory. As expected, the 23-year-old Slovenian was nominated by his team UAE as captain for the 109th Tour of France.

Pogacar won the last two editions of the most important cycling race in the world and was in a class of its own, especially last year. The tour starts on Friday in Copenhagen with a 13.2 kilometer individual time trial.

Pogacar was assigned a team of strong climbers. In the mountains he will be supported by Poland’s Rafal Majka, American Brandon McNulty, Spaniard Marc Soler and New Zealander George Bennett. In addition, the Norwegian Vegard Stake Laengen and the two classic specialists Matteo Trentin (Italy) and Mikkel Bjerg (Denmark) were nominated. As expected, the German sprinter Pascal Ackermann did not make it into the eight-man squad.
