Ben O’Connor retired early from the Tour de France due to injury. Last year’s fourth is the twelfth failure in the field.

As O’Connor’s team AG2R Citröen announced on the rest day (07/11/2022), the Australian is struggling with a muscle injury to the right buttock muscle. O’Connor is the second failure of the French team after teammate Geoffrey Bouchard, who tested positive for the corona virus on Saturday.

This means that 164 of the 176 drivers who originally started are still in the race. All Germans are still there.

The cancellations of the 109th Tour de France (given the last contested stage):

9th stage: Ben O’Connor (Australia/AG2R Citroen)

8th stage: Kevin Vermaerke (USA/DSM), Gianni Moscon (Italy/Astana Qazaqstan, Guillaume Martin (France/Cofidis), Kasper Asgreen (Denmark/Quick Step Alpha Vinyl), Ruben Antonio Almeida Guerreiro (Portugal/EF Eduacation-EasyPost)

7th stage: Geoffrey Bouchard (France/AG2R-Citroen), Vegard Stake Laengen (Norway/UAE Team Emirates)

6th stage: Alex Kirsch (Luxembourg/Trek-Segafredo)

5th stage: Jack Haig (Australia/Bahrain Victorious), Michael Gogl (Austria/Alpecin-Deceuninck), Daniel Oss (Italy/TotalEnergies)
