Marianne Vos won the first stage of the Tour de France Femmes 2025. The German favorite Liane Lippert fell after 50 kilometers. Marlen Reusser had to leave the tour for health reasons and rose after 68 kilometers.
Until the end, it remained exciting who would win the race. Marianne Vos from Team Visma-Lease A Bike attacked a few meters before the finish line and thus secured the yellow jersey after the first stage. Kimberly Pienaar from AG Insurance-Soudal team finished second, and third place won VOS teammate Pauline Ferrand-Prévot.
At first everything looked like her teammate Pauline Ferrand-Prévot would win. The Paris Roubaix winner attacked the mountain on the mountain and drove a big gap into the peloton. Lorena Wiebes and last year’s winner Kasia Niewiadoma were also close behind Pauline Ferrand-Prévot. After all, Marianne Vos was faster.
Visma-Lease A Bike clearly set the pace at the end of the race. The drivers drove around 50km/h on the last kilometers. The team wanted to prevent attacks, as in the meantime that of the German driver Franziska Koch.
Follow -up favorite Marlen Reusser has to leave the tour
A bad day for the Tour de Suisse winner Marlen Reusser: she got out of this year’s Tour de France after 68 kilometers. Already 33 kilometers after the start, the Swiss fell back from the peloton and had no team support. Almost 60 kilometers after the start, she had a gap of four minutes to the Peloton. She got out a few kilometers later.

Marlen Reusser fought stomach problems before the tour of the tour. Already during this year’s Giro d’Italia Donne, two weeks earlier, she fell ill with gastrointestinal damp. Now again.
She was considered one of the favorites to the overall classification: At the Tour de Suisse, she finished Kasia Niewiadoma and Demi full ring before the last Tour de France winners. At the Giro d’Italia Donne, she secured second place in the overall classification – despite the gastrointestinal stomach.
Liane Lippert fell from Team Movistar
The German favorite Liane Lippert falls after 50 kilometers. In a sharp curve she wedged with another driver. The 27-year-old had struck the elbow in the fall. The two-time stage winner was waiting for a short moment at this year’s Giro, probably for another bike. That brought her team colleague Marlen Reusser. As a result, Lippert lost valuable time.
After a while, the Friedrichshafener was able to connect to the second peloton, which had developed around 1:10 minute behind the main field at the time. Because of the fall, however, she came to the finish as the winner Marianne Vos over six minutes later. In doing so, she took one of the rear places: 116 rankings in the overall classification.
Individual attacks, but not long solos
It looked better for the German driver Franzisksa Koch. She attacked twice, but could not secure a long lead. For the first time, the German champion attacked the sprint rating in the street race – but was obviously not on the points. The 25-year-old from the Picnic-Postnl team wanted to separate from the peloton. One of the favorites, Lorena Wiebes, went with the German driver. However, the Duo did not allow the Team Visma Lease A Bike. After just a few meters, the Dutch team had caught up with the two drivers.
Maud Rijnbeek secures the first mountain points
The first attack by this year’s tour came immediately after the start. The Italian Laura Tomasi from the Laboral Kutxa – Fundacion Euskadi accelerated. The Dutchman Maud Rijnbeek from the peloton shook almost 50 meters behind. The two held their small lead of 30 seconds for almost twenty kilometers. Maud Rijnbeek attacked Tomasi after almost 23 kilometers and thus secured the lead of the peloton. Laura Tomasi then fell back to the peloton. 22-year-old Maud Rijnbeek led the peloton for another ten kilometers.
The driver from the Volkerwessels team, who is known to bring out many young talents, secured the first two points of the Tour de France Femmes 2025 through her in the meantime sole leadership: she was the first on the mountain Côte de Botségalo. A mountain in category four.
When the Peloton reached the mountain, there was a short sprint, because at the Tour de France Femmes there is also a point for the driver in Bergen of this category.
Fall before the start of the race
Before the official race had even started, there was the first fall: a driver got stuck on a traffic island. Neither a person with a flag was on the traffic island to point out the danger, nor did there were hand signals in the peloton for the drivers in the middle. The German driver Clara Koppenburg was also involved in the fall.
The drivers have little time until the next stage: on Sunday (July 27th, 2025) the professionals start at 12:10 p.m. In front of them is a 110.4 km long hill stage from Brest to Quimper.
