The Tour de France will take place in its 113th edition from July 4th to 26th, 2025. The total of 21 stages cover a distance of 3,333 kilometers. t-online accompanies everyone in the live ticker.
A total of 184 drivers from 23 teams will compete in Barcelona on July 4th. This means the tour begins outside France again and in Spain for the third time. The start is a 19-kilometer team time trial, which was last held at the start of a tour 55 years ago.
On the way to Paris, the drivers have to cover 3,333 kilometers and 54,450 meters of altitude. The route is divided into 21 stages: seven flat stages, four hilly, eight mountain stages with five mountain finishes, a team time trial and an individual time trial. There are two rest days in between.
The highest mountain in the Tour de France 2026 is the Col du Galibier in the French Alps at 2,642 meters. It is crossed on the 20th stage – the queen stage – on the way from Bourg-d’Oisans to Alpe d’Huez. The Alps are the last mountains on the route; before that, the Pyrenees, the Massif Central, the Vosges and the Jura are on the tour program.
Who are the favorites for the Tour de France 2026?
The top favorite to win is once again the Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, who is aiming for his fifth title after his victories in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025. His main competitor is still the Dane Jonas Vingegaard, who has good chances, especially on a mountainous route.
The extended group of favorites includes the Belgian Remco Evenepoel, the Slovenian Primož Roglič and the German Florian Lipowitz, who surprisingly achieved third place in the 2025 Tour. He is also in good form in 2026, coming third in the Tour of Catalonia and second in the Tour of the Basque Country. A new podium in Paris therefore seems quite realistic.
