Tough tasks for Turbine Potsdam

The women of the Bundesliga soccer team Turbine Potsdam are tackling the delayed start of the second half of the season with two catch-up games.

The bottom team, who were beaten by just one point, will first receive second-placed FC Bayern Munich (1 p.m., MagentaSport) in the Karl Liebknecht Stadium on Saturday, before the basement duel against Werden Bremen in Babelsberg on Wednesday. Both games were canceled at the beginning of February because the pitch in the Karl Liebknecht Stadium was unplayable.

“The game against Bayern is a good opportunity for the girls to prove themselves against a strong opponent,” says Dirk Heinrichs.

Turbine’s actual assistant coach is stepping in as head coach for the second time this season after the surprising separation from Sven Weigang during the winter break. The approach against the runner-up is clear. First and foremost, the team has to be compact, which requires discipline: “If we run around wildly, it won’t work.”

That turbine Having two weeks of additional preparation time due to the game cancellations primarily helped with the integration of winter transfers Paige Culver, Jessica De Felippo, Maria Cristina Lange and Darya Rajee. Especially the two Canadians Culver (defense) and De Felippo (attack) are good for the Potsdam team because of their size. “Until now we were a fairly small team,” said Heinrichs, “both are options for the starting XI against Munich.”

After the Bayern game, the turbines have the key games against Bremen, Duisburg and Cologne, all opponents in the relegation battle. “Of course we have to get the points to keep going,” says defensive player Anna Gerhard in the podcast of the new media partner Radio Potsdam.
