SC Paderborn only managed a goalless draw against 1. FC Magdeburg on matchday 24 of the 2nd Bundesliga and missed the chance to intervene in the promotion race.

Due to the 0-0 draw on Sunday (March 3rd, 2024), the Paderborn team missed a great opportunity to move even closer to the promotion places. All teams placed ahead of the SCP lost points on matchday 24.

The East Westphalians were also unable to take advantage of the majority in the final phase after Magdeburg’s Luca Schuler was sent off (79′) plus eight minutes of added time. Paderborn, with only one defeat from the last six games, remains in sixth place with 38 points, now only three points behind HSV thanks to the point gain.

Tough game in Paderborn with few chances

In a tough first half, the guests tried to gain more control of the game. There were no great opportunities on both sides. In the second half, both teams tried to take control of the game, but promising finishes remained extremely rare.

Magdeburg’s best chance had Mo El Hankouri (57′). His shot was parried by keeper Pelle Boevink. At Paderborn it was Adriano Grimaldi, who had recently been substituted, who failed with his shot to Magdeburg goalkeeper Dominik Reimann (68th).

“A point that we have to live with today,” said Magdeburg coach Christian Titz. “With the red card it becomes more difficult because you then know: Now you have to stand here so that you don’t catch another standard.” His counterpart Lukas Kwasniok was only dissatisfied with the result and liked his team’s performance “top, top, top” and said “Magdeburg didn’t see any land at all.”
