Tottenham fail with offer for Luis Díaz at FC Porto

Most valuable professional in Portugal

According to English media reports, FC Porto have rejected an offer from Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Luis Díaz. The most valuable player in the Bwin league, who was recently associated with Borussia Dortmund, is therefore the primary goal of coach Antonio Conte. The 25-year-old’s contract with the Portuguese runs until 2024 and includes an exit clause of 80 million euros.

Like the Portuguese daily newspaper “Jornal de Noticias” and the “telegraphreport, the transfer fee offered by Spurs was EUR 45m plus performance-related bonus options of EUR 10m, which would make the Colombian the most expensive signing in the Premier League in the current transfer window – but not enough for Porto is. The club’s demand is therefore at least 60 million euros.

Courted by Tottenham: Díaz cost FC Porto 7.22 million euros at the time

Díaz has been under contract with the Portuguese since 2019 and has since increased its market value by 20 times. For a relatively low 7.22 million euros, the right-footed player moved from his home country from Junior FC to the port city. It can be used variably on the left side.

Spurs coach Conte recently pointed out the need for transfers after his team’s 2-0 defeat against Chelsea and in the course of this drew attention to the fundamental difference in quality compared to the top clubs. In the current transfer window, apart from loan returnee Alfie Whiteman, Tottenham have not yet announced any signings – last summer the club invested 67 million euros in signings such as Bryan Gil (20) and Emerson Royal (23). Tottenham is tenth in the 2021/22 English expenditure table. League leaders Arsenal bought for 166 million euros.

The club is said to have recently failed at Wolverhampton Wanderers with an 18 million offer for Adama Traoré, but the focus is still on the right winger – Spurs are confident of reaching an agreement by next Monday.
