16 stitches, collapsed lung: Tory Lanez demands $100 million after attack.
In December 2022, Tory Lanez’s music career came to an abrupt end. At that time, the musician was sentenced to ten years in prison for shooting US rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Now there is news about him and his prison sentence: He is currently arguing with the judiciary.
Lawsuit after knife attack
In May 2025, Tory Lanez was injured in a knife attack by a fellow inmate. He stabbed the artist 16 times on his back, torso and head. After the attack, he was taken to hospital in critical condition with a collapsed lung.
The rapper is now drawing conclusions from the incident and is suing the California prison system for $100 million. The indictment states that the attack was “unprovoked” and “life-threatening”.
Lawsuit is directed against prison and guards
Daystar Peterson’s lawsuit – Tory Lanez’s real name – is directed against the California Department of Corrections, the facility where he is serving his sentence, and its guards.
As the Associated Press and ABC News report, the specific accusation against the prison is that it was irresponsible to house the 33-year-old in a cell with the alleged perpetrator Santino Casio, who is serving a life sentence for murder. The lawsuit states: “The decision to place Casio with Peterson was, or should have been, a known danger” given Tory Lanez’s “high profile as a celebrity.”
In addition, the prison guards are accused of not reacting quickly enough to the incident and not doing enough to protect the musician.
Different reactions from the industry
The knife attack in May 2025 provoked various reactions in the music industry. The rapper Drake launched a petition calling for the release of Tory Lanez. SZA, on the other hand, spoke out against the detainee after his fans harassed Megan Thee Stallion following the shooting in 2020.
