Torn cruciate ligament – serious injury to Eintracht striker Kalajdzic

As of: February 19, 2024 1:54 p.m

Sasa Kalajdzic suffered the third cruciate ligament tear of his career in the away game against SC Freiburg and was out for several months. It is questionable whether the striker will ever play for Eintracht Frankfurt again.

New signing Sasa Kalajdzic arrived on Sunday during Eintracht Frankfurt’s guest appearance at SC Freiburg (3:3) As feared, I suffered a torn cruciate ligament and a tear in the outer ligament in my right knee. As the Hessians announced on Monday, the Austrian attacker will be out indefinitely. For Kalajdzic, who moved to Eintracht on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the winter, this is the third cruciate ligament tear of his career.

Kalajdzic was unlucky

Particularly bitter: Kalajdzic suffered the serious knee injury in the early stages at his new clubs. After moving to VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2019, he was caught in a preseason test match; three years later, his cruciate ligament tore at Wolves just after a few minutes in the first Premier League game. Both times in the left knee.

At Eintracht it took a few weeks until this shock diagnosis. Kalajdzic sprained his ankle in the early stages on Sunday without any opposition and had to be substituted. He spent the rest of the game on the bench with a knee brace and went straight to the hospital after the final whistle. Now the season is over for the 26-year-old, and the European Championships in Germany next summer are no longer an issue for him.

Kalajdzic’s future open

What will happen next for Kalajdzic after this season is questionable. Kalajdzic, for whom Eintracht was unable to negotiate a purchase option, is under contract in Wolverhampton until 2027. It is currently completely open whether Eintracht will try to secure a commitment despite the injury. It cannot be ruled out that the game in Freiburg was Kalajdzic’s last in the Frankfurt jersey.
