Top transfer for VOC player Roos Daleman: “They needed me right away”

Roos Daleman has been playing for the German SG BBM Bietigheim since last week. The left corner player played for the Amsterdam VOC for the past four years. The handball player born in The Hague wants to create a furore in the Bundesliga and Champions League with her new team.

The transfer from the premier league to Bundesliga went very quickly for the only 19-year-old handball player. “I didn’t have long to doubt,” says Daleman. “I was approached on Monday, trained on Wednesday and viewed a number of houses and had to make the decision on Thursday. I wanted to play for VOC last weekend to say goodbye. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. They had me in right away. Germany needed.”

She has signed a one-year contract with Bietigheim and meets a number of compatriots. Danick Snelder, Kelly Dulfer and Inger Smits also play at the German club. Previously Tess Wester from Heerhugowaard also played for Bietigheim.

Despite the short decision time, Daleman has made a conscious choice for Bietigheim. The reigning German national champion has been competing for prizes for years. Last year Bietigheim won the prestigious EHF Cup, the second highest European level. “I had a great time at VOC, but to claim the Orange, the Bundesliga is more attractive to play in. I may never get another chance to work in Germany,” says an optimistic Daleman about her transfer.

Tactically and mentally

Despite the unique opportunity, the South Hollander does not think that she had completely finished learning at VOC. “You can always learn a lot from a trainer like Rachel de Haze. Tactically and mentally she has a lot of knowledge and experience. I also discussed this transfer with Rachel. She never tried to stop me or talk to me. She also sees that I have to grab this opportunity with both hands.”

Without Roos Daleman, VOC will take on PSV on Saturday in Eindhoven. In Germany, Bietigheim is the proud leader after five games. All games so far have been won by Daleman’s new club.
