Police chase Dresden fans across the pitch: top game interrupted

The top game in the 2nd Bundesliga between Dynamo Dresden and Hertha BSC had to be interrupted several times in the early stages. Then the situation escalates.
What had happened? After a loud bang in the Hertha fans’ block, numerous masked Dresden supporters suddenly stood in front of the guest block and wanted to storm it. The SGD supporters shot pyrotechnics into the block and the away fans also fired back.

The police then arrived with several emergency services and chased the Dresden fans across the field back into the block. Dynamo captain Stefan Kutschke made his way to the block to say a few words of encouragement to the supporters, but had to turn around without having achieved anything. Over 100 police officers then formed a large chain on the field to prevent further incidents, but withdrew after almost 30 minutes.
According to Dresden’s sports director, Sören Gonther, it is supposed to be a small stolen flag, but he cannot confirm anything 100 percent. “It’s very unreal at the moment. It has absolutely no place on the football field. We’re all in a bit of shock.”
Sky reporter Nele Ocik spoke of “scary scenes”. In the catacombs there would have been worried looks from all those responsible for the SGD.
