Our list of K-Pop Christmas singles from Twice, Stray Kids, Billlie, Pixy and more.
1. Youngjae – “Walk With Me”
A classic Christmas ballad comes from Choi Young-jae. The ex-lead singer of GOT7 can currently be seen in the South Korean Netflix series “So Not Worth It” and is of course still making music. A song as fluffy as the sweater Youngjae wears in the video.
2. Stray Kids – “Christmas EveL”
You can already tell from the view numbers: “Christmas EveL” by the Stray Kids is a real banger that is also gaining momentum on TikTok. The way they cleverly chop up various Christmas songs and prove with a lot of humor that Christmas songs can also be produced in a contemporary way, bouncy and cool, is pretty impressive.
In the video, the Stray Kids reluctantly save Christmas and end up turning it into quite a party.
3. Billlie – “Snowy Night”
On “Snowy Night” the seven-member girl group Billlie – only real with three “l”s in the middle – tries to do the balancing act between a tasty Christmas classic sound and a modern production. They succeed extremely well, especially thanks to the original video clip (pay attention to the fluffy monster). However, as is often the case with South Korean girl groups, you have to like the concept of “sugar shock” that many bands have internalized.
4. Davichi – “Everyday Christmas”
In the fast-moving and often very young K-Pop, the Davichi duo is almost old school. The debut of the two singers Lee Hae-ri and Kang Min-kyung was released in 2008. Davichi have two Christmas songs at the start this year: the ballad-like “I Wish” and this slightly poppier number that calls for Christmas every day. Good idea actually…
5. BTS – “Butter” (Holiday Remix)
BTS make it easy for themselves every year when it comes to Christmas songs. Like “Dynamite,” “Butter” was also wrapped in cotton wool and made into a “Holiday Remix.”
We’re still waiting for the ultimate Christmas blast from the mega stars.
6. Pixy – “Call Me”
On tracks like “Addicted” and “Bewitched,” the girl group Pixy showed more of an aggressive, dark side, as is known from acts like Dreamcatcher and Everglow. Singer Da-jeong also covered Avril Lavigne for a video. For their Christmas single “Call Me”, Pixy chose what is commonly called “Cute Concept”. It suits them quite well, but I would like to have more bite next time.
7. Kim Yong-jun and Kim Sung-kyu – “When is Snows”
And once again the full contemplation drone – a duet by Kim Sung-kyu, who, in addition to various series roles, is part of the band Infinite, founded in 2010, and Kim Yong-jun, who was with SG Wannabe, an act that debuted in 2004. A velvety-sung meeting of the K-pop generations under the Christmas tree…
Bonus Track: Twice – “Wonderful Day”
Strictly speaking not K-Pop, because it’s sung in Japanese, but: If you want Christmas to be really sweet and a little cheesy on your bread or smeared on your Christmas stollen and don’t necessarily want to end up with Mariah Carey…
Twice also know how to bring together sweet contemplation, lavishly decorated Christmas trees, thick harmony and angelic voices for a “Wonderful Day”. Enjoy!
