Top 20 of the vinyl charts in July 2023: Die Toten Hosen in first place

Another surprise: rock features more in the top 10 than rap.

The market research institute “GfK Entertainment” has published new information on the current music market in Germany. After the regular album and single charts for the first half of 2023, “GfK” now shares the 20 best-selling vinyl albums of July. The result: Rock is still more popular here than rap.

Die Toten Hosen and more German artists in the vinyl charts

The first place in Germany’s best-selling records could come as a surprise to some music fans. Because that’s what Die Toten Hosen’s debut album OPEL-GANG got hold of. In keeping with the band’s 40th anniversary, the Düsseldorf-based company released a deluxe edition of their debut work, which apparently still enjoys great popularity. It is followed by GARTENSTADT by Apache 207 in second place, making it the first representative of the rap genre. What is striking about the vinyl charts is that almost half of the top 10 are German-speaking artists. In addition to the pants and Apache 207, Danger Dan (THAT’S ALL COVERED BY THE ARTISTICITY, sixth place) and silvermoon (AUF AU, seventh place) among the top ten in the ranking.

In third place, ex-One Direction singer Niall Horan (THE SHOW) appears as the first English-speaking artist. Fourth place went to the Foo Fighters, who released their first LP since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins with BUT HERE WE ARE. Another great of the rock genre is Pink Floyd founding member Roger Waters with THE LOCKDOWN SESSIONS in 15th place. New in the 20 most popular vinyl albums: UK rapper Little Simz with NO THANK YOU (tenth place) and US newcomer Gracie Abrams with her debut album GOOD RIDDANCE (#15).

“GfK Entertainment” regularly determines the German music charts for the Bundesverband der Musikindustrie eV – the data collection is based on the sales and usage data of 2,800 retailers.
