The court in Curaçao imposed prison sentences up to 26 years against four men on Wednesday for the murder of Marechaussee Toon Brood from Roosendaal. The 49-year-old victim was shot dead in his house on the island last May during a home robbery. The judge in Willemstad called the perpetrators ‘ruthless’.
According to the judge it has been proven that Aivano M. (23) had shot bread in his own house. He was given 18 years, he was demanded against him for 20 years. Claverzjion N. (26) was in prison for sixteen years, he was demanded for eighteen years.
The driver Glennson Z. (27) was demanded for five years, but he had thirty months of which six months conditional and a probationary period of one year. He was in a car during the murder and, according to the judge, was not complicit in the murder.
Border surveillance
Toon Brood lived with his family in Curaçao. He had just left for Curaçao to make the island safer: “We came to the island for my man’s work and to guard the border,” said Brood’s wife during the session at the end of December last year.
Brood was shot dead during a home robbery in May last year. His wife Sonja and their son were then also in the house on the Reigerweg, but they remained unharmed.
“What happened that evening is a big nightmare,” said Broods wife during the session at the end of December last year. “They literally passed corpses, because they all saw that the shot was hit on my husband. They have Hear tone moaning and fighting for his life. ”
Robbery ‘just’ continued

Sonja feels that she is still fighting for her life. She was in her house in Curaçao on her knees waiting for a second shot. Her husband was killed with the first shot, but the second shot never came. “But my body still thinks there can be a shot.”
