The new chapter of the internal crisis of the PP has another proper name: Tomás Díaz Ayuso. The brother of the president of the Community of Madrid has been the object of alleged espionage ordered from Genoa to damage Ayuso’s image. The reason: possible irregularities in contracts awarded in April 2020, during the worst of the pandemic, to acquire FFP2 and FFP3 masks, by the Community. The suspicion of the Genoa collaborators was that Tomás Díaz Ayuso could take a commission for acting as an intermediary.
But they are not the only contracts that have put the regional president’s brother in the spotlight. His name has come up on several occasions in the Madrid Assembly due to other controversies. One of the last related to possible irregularities in the awards granted to the company in which she currently works, Artesolar Lighting SLspecialized in the manufacture and installation of LED lamps.
Ayuso’s brother has been working at this company, which has its headquarters in Seseña (Toledo), since 2016 as a “project manager”, something like the company’s sales or business development manager. It was last November when the PSOE took the case to the Autonomous Assembly, but in the previous legislature it was also done by United We Can.
Ten contracts with Ayuso’s company
The purple party requested the Chamber through two requests for information (a mechanism similar to the transparency portal that exists in the Assembly for deputies) on ten contracts that the Government of the Community of Madrid, specifically the Ministry of Health, had signed with Artesolar Lighting between September 2019 and March 2020. The total sum of these ten contracts, according to party sources, amounts to 70,503 euros.
All awards were made through minor contractswhich are granted by the Administration for amounts of less than 15,000 euros and for which a public tender is not necessary, it is sufficient that three bids are requested from three different companies and, under certain criteria, the successful bidder is chosen who only You must present the final invoice.
