Vlaams Belang chairman Tom Van Grieken has been charged with assault and battery. He shares this himself on X. It concerns an incident that took place in June during a demonstration for healthcare. Then some party members allegedly disturbed the peace and the situation got out of hand. Images showed Van Grieken being hit in the face by a police officer.

The versions of the incident vary among the parties involved. According to the police, the presence of Vlaams Belang led to unrest among the demonstrators. “To maintain peace and avoid further confrontations, our police leadership decided to isolate this group,” said police spokeswoman Ilse Van de Keere. “This was accompanied by rebelliousness, followed by pushing and pulling. The correct explanation for this is still being examined internally.”
