The Tom Petty Estate has sold the late musician’s former oceanfront home in Malibu, California for nearly $10 million. TMZ reports that the three-bedroom Escondido Beach property was listed on December 14 and an offer was accepted on Christmas Eve. Apparently, some details still need to be clarified before the deal is final.

Escondido Beach in Malibu, California is known for its huge beachfront mansions and plenty of famous residents like Angelina Jolie and Dr. Dre known. Tom Petty once lived there, too, in a relatively modest house by the standards of the state. It was sold for almost $10 million at the end of last year by the musician’s estate executors, who have recently been doing everything they can to ensure that Petty’s musical legacy is not abused by politicians. According to TMZ, the property was listed as of December 14 and was sold on Christmas Eve. Details have not yet been clarified, so the deal is not yet sealed.

Comprised of a main house and a guest house, Petty’s bungalow-style home feels like a smaller (albeit quite luxurious) cabin amidst its more modern architectural neighbors.

Tom Petty recorded songs at the guest house

The two bedroom master suite features a massive floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace separating the kitchen and living area. Sizable panels and beams of dark and white wood structure the house. On the house-high balcony you have a fabulous view of the ocean. The guest house is smaller and was used by Petty as a recording studio while he was staying there.

The property has a total area of 2,200 square meters and uses almost the entire length of the private beach. Petty bought the home in 2010 for $6.8 million, and his heirs will make a tidy profit if the sale goes through for the $9.85 million reported by TMZ.
