Tom Hardy has won Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments

After Tom Hardy’s role as “Venom” in “Let There Be Carnage” last year once again caused overcrowded cinemas and booming box offices, his public presence has quieted down a bit. Now you also know why.

According to Teesside News, Hardy has traveled around England and won Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments, a martial art of unarmed self-defense. He is said to have taken part in a tournament unannounced and thus surprised his opponent Danny Appleby very much: “I recognized him immediately. Everyone knows who Tom Hardy is, right? I was totally shocked. He said, ‘Just forget it’s me and do what you normally would,'” Appleby said.

“He’s the toughest competitor I’ve ever had”

Since Hardy is better known as an actor than as a martial artist, Appleby expected an easy tournament. However, he was wrong – he went on to say: “He’s a really strong guy. You wouldn’t think so since he’s a celebrity. I’m fine, I’ve competed in about six tournaments and I’ve been on the podium in each one. But he’s probably the toughest competitor I’ve ever had – he lived up to his role as Bane, that’s for sure.” “Bane” refers to the comic book character of Batman.

A winner’s certificate for “Edward Hardy”

When the fight ended, the two talked and Hardy explained that family members of his lived in the area. In addition, the tournament sponsor’s Instagram account posted a photo on Instagram of Hardy holding a winner’s certificate. His real name is even noted on it: Edward Hardy. Appleby said he now remembers him as a “really very nice guy.”

Hardy was most recently seen in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home, a sequel to 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. He played Eddie Brock and the Marvel cameo Venom. In addition to playing the same character in the film Venom: Let There Be Carnage, he also served as a producer.
