Tom Hanks received an honorary doctorate “without working a day”

Hanks received a volleyball decorated with the Harvard text as a gift from Harvard University. The ball is a reference to Hanks’ 2000 hit movie Cast Away – Gone with the Wind.

Harvard announced in March that Hanks would be the valedictorian at the graduation ceremony. The head of the university Larry Bacow justified the choice by the fact that Hanks has “promoted the country’s national culture and expanded the ability to appreciate previously unexplored stories”.
