Tokio Hotel release new single “Memory Lane”, in which they look back on over 20 years of band history.
More than twenty years have passed since Tokio Hotel rocked an entire generation with “Through the Monsoon” in 2005. The lives of the four boys from Saxony-Anhalt were completely turned upside down. In their new single “Memory Lane,” the former teen stars get nostalgic.
Eight heads adorn the cover of the new single: Bill and Tom Kaulitz, Gustav Schäfer and Georg Listing stand above an image of their teenage versions in front of a rose-colored sky – including “Memory Lane”, a street of memories.
“Let’s raise a glass to the old times”
“Memory Lane” is a hymn to making it far. At the same time, the song reminisces about what was left behind: “I know I never said goodbye.” The awareness that it’s not just you who has changed makes the message bittersweet: “Are you still that kid or a little guarded?” The résumé sounds grown-up and mature – a look in the rearview mirror after two decades on the highway of fame. This throwback is carried by dreamy guitars and floating vocals. Like the end credits of a film, the song passes in 2:45 minutes.
On old and new paths
With their new single, Tokio Hotel draw a line back to the beginning. With their sixth album “2001”, which was released in 2022, they referred to the year the band was founded. Thanks to the Kaulitz brothers’ podcast “Kaulitz Hills: Mustard from Hollywood” and their own Netflix series “Kaulitz & Kaulitz”, Tokio Hotel has gained increasing public attention again in recent years. Bill and Tom Kaulitz have now been announced as presenters for the “Wetten Dass…” revival, which will air on ZDF on December 5, 2026.
In keeping with the nostalgic theme of their new single, Tokio Hotel are calling for throwback moments on TikTok: fans should post childhood pictures of themselves compared to current photos. The band rides the nostalgia trend wave and contributes a song that definitely has throwback potential.
