Tokayev turned to CSTO partners for help

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the evening of January 5, he holds a meeting on the situation in the country, where unrest, clashes and pogroms have been going on for several days.

During the meeting, the president said that in connection with the current situation, relying on the collective security treaty, he appealed to the heads of the CSTO states with a request “to assist Kazakhstan in overcoming this terrorist threat.” He indicated that he considered such an appeal to be absolutely appropriate and timely.

Tokayev called the thugs in Alma-Ata and other cities terrorist gangs and said that they had been trained abroad.

“Considering that these terrorist gangs are, in fact, international, they have undergone serious training abroad, and their attack on Kazakhstan can and should be viewed as an act of aggression,” the head of state emphasized, quoted by “Interfax”

Tokayev also said that terrorist gangs are seizing large infrastructure facilities. In particular, the airport in Alma-Ata was seized, where there are five aircraft, including foreign ones. “Almaty was attacked, destroyed, vandalized,” the president stressed.

He said that the gangs operating in the country seize the premises where small arms are stored, are fighting with the cadets of the schools. In addition, at present, near Alma-Ata, there is a battle of terrorists with an airborne unit of the Ministry of Defense of the republic, writes RIA News
