According to rail manager Infrabel, the accident happened at 4.15 pm in the transition zone on floor -1 of Antwerp Central station. The 5-year-old child was hit by a train there, authorities confirm. “We assume a tragic accident,” it reads. In order to rule out everything and to be able to conduct all possible investigations, the public prosecutor has requested an investigating judge. Forensic experts from the federal judicial police also attended the scene on Monday evening.
According to railway manager Infrabel, the zone where the collision happened is only accessible to railway workers. The investigation will therefore also have to clarify how the child ended up on the track there.
