A striking shift in the TV world: no longer Today Inside, but Eva is the most watched talk show in our country. What happened? “They are trying to step it up with Gordon.”

It will be a tough pill to swallow for Wilfred Genee: it seems that Today Inside is definitely no longer the most watched talk show in our country, because competitor Eva Jinek manages to charm more viewers almost every evening. While she is often above the million mark, the men of VI are increasingly below it. And that is worrying.

VI under million

VI is pretty much the pillar on which all of SBS 6 floats, so it is important that it does not collapse further. “Today Inside scores slightly less,” says media critic Victor Vlam Victor Indicates TV. “It strikes me that since the beginning of this year, the provisional viewing figures have only scored above a million seven times, and that used to be much more often.”

Back then it was quite often above a million, according to Victor. “Recently it has to do with De Slimste Mens, which is right opposite. That is a well-watched program and it is logical that Today Inside scores slightly less as a result, but even before the start of De Slimste Mens, the viewing figures were not very good.”

Gordon at the table

The Smartest Person is over after this week, but it will be replaced by a daily version of Heel Holland Bakt. “That remains stiff competition. That means that there are still real problems for Today Inside. I suspect they are aware of it,” says Victor.

Putting Gordon at the table last Friday was purely intended to attract viewers, he thinks. “Yes, that seems like an experiment to boost the viewing figures on Friday. I can’t really think of another explanation for it. It didn’t really help, because it had the second worst viewing figures of the week.”

No explanation

Only the Tuesday broadcast with Thomas Erdbrink scored lower, according to Victor. “Yes, it needs to be looked into, because they have of course given up the number 1 position to Eva Jinek’s talk show. She is now really the most watched talk show and is often over a million. I have no conclusive explanation for this.”

It probably just needs to be a bit more rebellious and exciting, he decides. “I think that also plays a role. It is sometimes too much of a repetition. You have to see if you can shake things up a little more. They have to keep an eye on it all, because it is all just a little less than in the past.”
