The German sledging association BSD wants to campaign aggressively for a more contemporary role for winter sports and thus, among other things, take account of the energy crisis.
“Winter sports must be shifted back to the winter months,” said board member Alexander Resch on Friday as part of the BSD season opening event.
One is therefore “in exchange with the international associations, we are in favor of a compact winter sports season in December, January and February,” Resch continued. With a view to tobogganing, skeleton and bobsleigh, autumn races are unreasonable. “If you just see what energy the October icing of the railways eats up, it’s obvious.”
Such a rethinking is also necessary overall, “it’s important to keep our sport socially acceptable. Otherwise you can no longer convey it to people.”
The reconstruction of the Koenigssee railway, which was destroyed in the heavy rain in summer 2021, will also be pursued with this focus. Here “the energy consumption should be reduced and energy should also be generated”: “We want to produce the electricity that we need ourselves with a sensible concept.”
