Today the volunteers of the Paddenwerkgroep are busy here. Henk Hellema, Padden Sredder: “Here in the ditches are the guidance screens that lead the toads to the tunnels. But the plants are too high here, so that the toads do not go through the tunnel, but climb over it. And that means danger of being driven to death . “
So the screens must be cleaned, the path rared and the vegetation around the inputs of the tunnels is updated.
Today the volunteers have not seen a path yet. But when the mushroom starts, today’s work will save many toad lives. “I think of hundreds,” says Hellema.
Jannie Betsema – also voluntarily mushroom rescuer – is scraping away a little further. This makes the path a bit easier for the path. “I like to be busy outside. And that way you also do something good for the toads.”
