Before the first round
When the games in the first round of the DFB Cup kick off at the weekend, it will be “David versus Goliath” again. In the past 18 years, at least two first division clubs have had to give up after the opening game, last season Eintracht Frankfurt, Greuther Fürth and VfL Wolfsburg were hit.
In 1991/92, a second division team showed that sensations don’t just have to be limited to the first round, they made it to the final and even won the title there.
