TM Database: Scotland’s caps complete – Dalglish double record holder

…better and better!

Another milestone has been added to the transfer market statistics. All 796 games played by the Scottish national team since the first international match in 1873 are now available in our database. The most appearances with 107 denied the now 71-year-old Sir Kenny Dalglish, who appeared in his playing days for Celtic Glasgow and Liverpool FC. With the latter club, he won the European Cup three times – today’s Champions League. The former striker is also his country’s record goalscorer with 30 goals. However, he shares this place with Denis Law.

In the history of football, Scotland has played most often against neighbor England: 115 duels have been recorded, of which 41 were won and 48 lost. Also the second highest Netherlands had to accept against the “Three Lions” at 3:9 in April 1961. The Scots only lost even higher against Uruguay at the World Cup in 1954, a 0:7 was on the scoreboard at the end. The selection celebrated the biggest win against Ireland. However, this game was a long time ago: On February 23, 1901, an 11:0 was celebrated. Ireland can be described as Scotland’s favorite opponent, with the Irish making up three of the four clearest wins.

In the list of national coaches, among many Scots, Berti Vogts stands out as a German, who looked after the country from 2002 to 2004 and won eight games in 31 games.
