Another milestone has been added to the transfer market statistics. All 623 games of the national team of Greece are now available in our database. The Greeks celebrated the greatest success in their football history in 2004 with the European Championship title. Her coach at the time was Otto Rehhagel, who, with a tenure of 3,247 days, has by far the longest of all previous Greek national coaches. The 83-year-old was not the only German coach of the blue and white. Michael Skibbe was also on the touchline in 27 games.
The second top scorer is Angelos Charisteas, who became a hero of his homeland in 2004 when he scored the winning goal against Portugal in the final. Overall, the former striker, who played for Werder Bremen, Bayer 04 and Schalke in Germany, scored 25 goals. The third-placed player is also a familiar face from the Bundesliga. The ex-Leverkusener and Frankfurter, among others, is just one goal behind Charisteas. The ranking is led by Nikolaos Anastopoulos (29).
Georgios Karagounis, meanwhile, holds the status as the record player, with 139 appearances, beating Theodoros Zagorakis (120) and Konstantinos Katsouranis (116) into places.
