TM database: All Denmark’s games available – Eriksen & Kjaer chasing records

…better and better!

Another milestone has been added to the transfer market statistics. All Denmark national team matches are now available in our database. The Danes played their first official international match at the Olympic Games in 1908 against France B and immediately won 9-0. Just three days later, the team secured Denmark’s highest international match victory to date, beating France 17-1.

The Danes’ most frequent opponent is neighboring Sweden with 107 duels to date. Germany is in fifth place in the ranking. Denmark celebrated their greatest success against the DFB team at the 1992 European Championship. Initially not qualified in sport and only ten days before the tournament started for Yugoslavia, which was excluded because of the Balkan war, Denmark surprisingly won the title. In the final, reigning world champion Germany was beaten 2-0. The outsider created the myth of the “Danish Dynamite”.

With the current captain Simon Kjaer and Christian Eriksen, two players are chasing records in the Denmark dress. With 126 official appearances, Dennis Rommedahl (2000 to 2013) is the record international player, but Kjaer (119) and Eriksen (111) only need a handful of games to catch up. Eriksen is also in the top 5 of Denmark’s top scorers with 38 goals. At the top with the duo Poul Nielsen (1910 to 1925) and Jon Dahl Tomasson (1997 to 2010), Eriksen is 14 goals short.
