Almost a week after the serious riots at the Dresden game, 1. FC Magdeburg lost another important home game. Hannover 96 returned to the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga with a 2-1 (1-0) win at the Avnet Arena. In addition, 1. FC Nürnberg and Preußen Münster drew.
The Japanese Daisuke Yokota gave the fifth-placed team the lead in the 38th minute. Just three minutes after Baris Atik equalized (53′), Enzo Leopold made it 2-1 (56′). For Hanover’s coach Christian Titz it was a successful return to his long-time job. The 54-year-old trained the FCM for four and a half years until last summer.
In front of 25,790 spectators in Magdeburg it was the first game after the riots in the East derby against Dynamo Dresden (1:2). More than 70 police officers were injured last Saturday. This time too, the game had to be interrupted for almost nine minutes in the 3rd minute because Hanover fans set off pyrotechnics and fogged up the pitch. Otherwise, things remained quiet before and during the game. According to their own statements, the police were on site with a “massive deployment of forces”. Magdeburg sponsors cleared several advertising hoardings so that the club could place an appeal directly on the pitch: “For peaceful football. Violence has no place at the FCM.”
In terms of sport, Yokota in particular stood out in the first half. The 25-year-old missed the first big chance of the game (21′), scored the first goal and then hit the crossbar again (45’+2). After the break, Benjamin Källmann (48′) missed the 2-0 lead before a loss of the ball by Noel Aseko Nkili led to Magdeburg’s equalizer. However, the 96ers immediately took the lead again because they were the much more dangerous of two attacking teams that evening. Marcus Mathisen (76th) only hit the crossbar for Magdeburg.
1. FC Nürnberg missed a home win against Preußen Münster
1. FC Nürnberg, which was once again inconsistent on offense, gave away a win against Preußen Münster in the 2nd Bundesliga. As in previous weeks, coach Miroslav Klose’s team was too sloppy in front of the opposing goal in the 1-1 (0-0) draw, especially in the first half. The Münster team took a flattering point from Franconia in their 400th second division game. It was their first point this football year.
The long, negligent striker Mohamed Ali Zoma gave Nuremberg the lead in the 56th minute with his fifth goal of the season. As if out of nowhere, Jorrit Hendrix (63′) completed a counterattack to flatter the equalizer in front of 26,170 spectators. He then missed the opportunity to raise the score with a left-footed shot (75′). The Nuremberg team at least temporarily improved to eighth place in the table.
