Manchester City has made a potentially decisive mistake in the fight for the English football championship title.
The “Citizens” only managed a 3-3 away draw against Everton on Monday and are therefore five points behind leaders Arsenal. The “Gunners” still have three games to play and City four. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s crisis deepened further with a 3-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
ManCity took the lead against Everton through Jeremy Doku (43′), but then Thierno Barry equalized after a mistake by Marc Guehi (68′). Jake O’Brien added after a corner (73′) and Barry made it 3-1 (81′). The guests showed comeback qualities and, thanks to Erling Haaland (83rd) and Doku (90+8th), saved a draw, which, however, might not be enough for the championship.
Chelsea still in crisis
City’s FA Cup final opponents Chelsea are without a point for six games in a row after defeat against Nottingham, and the first goal in this phase was little consolation. The last successful experience so far was a 4-1 win at Aston Villa on March 4th. Chelsea have since slipped from fifth to ninth, one point away from twelfth.
The club world champion’s consolation goal from Joao Pedro (93′) with an overhead kick was certainly worth seeing. Taiwo Awoniyi (2nd, 52nd) and Igor Jesus with a penalty (15th) scored for the guests. The two-time Master Cup winner (1979, 1980) was just getting into form. With three laps to go, the lead over the last relegation spot is six points. On Thursday, Forest defended a 1-0 lead in the Europa League semi-final at Aston Villa.
