Tina Nijkamp worked for another year after her departure as SBS 6 boss at the company of Reinout Oerlemans, but she didn’t like that at all. “A terrible business park.”

Nowadays she is known as a viewing grade authority, but until 2011 she worked as director of television of SBS 6: Tina Nijkamp. In that year she left quite abruptly with the channel group, while three years earlier she had become broadcaster of the year. The reason for her departure? Dramatic events in her private life.

Business park

Tina tells in Het Parool That it was really a very bad time. “In two and a half years my mother, my sister and my father. All of cancer. My whole base was gone. I couldn’t sleep anymore, I thought I was sick myself, it was no longer possible. My husband called: Tina is no longer coming.”

And then? “After a year I tried it again, at Eyeworks, the company of Reinout Oerlemans. The people who worked there were nice, but I was in a terrible business park in Amsterdam-West.”

“What am I doing here?!”

Tina actually wanted to leave the Reinout company as soon as possible. “I thought: what am I doing here, my child is at the daycare, it doesn’t have to be for the money, my husband works.”

Since then she no longer has a job. “I have become a housemother and I enjoy it. Washes turn, be there for the children, with the dog outside. I don’t spend a lot of money. I don’t go anywhere and I buy my clothes at the HEMA and H&M.”

Naovational

What does Tina actually think about living in Amsterdam? She is there between the Dutch celebrities in the chic south. “But what I have difficulty with: there is no sense of community in Amsterdam, no after -week. You can die in your house for a month. In a village that is unthinkable.”

Why doesn’t she move? “My daughter wanted to go to the gymnasium and she could go to her first choice, close to where we live. In a village you don’t have the opportunity to go to a gymnasium.”
