What does Gordon have in common with his colleagues André Hazes Jr. and Rob Kemps? They are unpopular, cannot handle criticism well and are now getting a beating from Tina Nijkamp.
Tina Nijkamp, former channel boss of SBS 6, hears whispers here and there that there would be interest in a revival from Joling & Gordon about the Vloer, but she doesn’t believe a word of it. Gerard Joling has nothing to gain from it, Talpa is at loggerheads with Gordon and RTL boss Peter van der Vorst already has his hands full with half of this duo.
Gordon too expensive
If she had still been the broadcaster herself, Tina would have absolutely refused. “The chance of a ratings hit is minimal,” she explains The Telegraph. “Eighteen years and so many arguments later, it simply wouldn’t REALLY come across to the viewer anymore. (…) Too fake.”
And then sign Gordon as a solo presenter? “Gordon hasn’t presented ratings hits for many years and he likes to argue with everyone far too much. And then Gordon is also expensive.”
Self-mockery
What should the 55-year-old Gordon cost? According to Tina, he earned no less than nine thousand euros per year at SBS 6. And he has not delivered that for a long time, she emphasizes. In that respect, she believes Gerard is much better positioned in the market. “Gordon is missing something very important that Gerard has. That is self-mockery.”
That has proven to be the important success factor in 2023, says Tina. “Stars like Rob Kemps and André Hazes lost a lot of popularity because they take themselves very seriously, can’t handle criticism well and can never actually laugh at themselves. In contrast, the stars who are self-deprecating flourish.”
Beau and VI
Tina is referring to sporty TV stars such as the men of Today Inside – who do not act wildly when Even Tot Hier makes a joke about them – and Beau van Erven Dorens, who readily admits when Evert Santegoeds is right and he is not. A Gordon who says sorry to Evert? If Easter and Pentecost fall on the same day…
Still, Goor could use a touch of Beau, Tina decides. “It would definitely help him become successful again.”
