Timor Steffens knew that RTL was going to broadcast his buttocks in Expedition Robinson, but demanded that his trunk not appear on the screen. “Buttocks don’t really matter to me,” he explains.

It caused quite a commotion on the social media in November: Timor Steffens walking with his bare buttocks across the beach of Expedition Robinson in front of a million viewers. Both his left and right buttocks were in view for seconds as he waddled across the sand. Finally he sat down on a rock with his bare bottom.

Background

Farja Farvardin, who does online reality stuff for RTL Boulevard, says in a column: “I want to go back to a moment that I really enjoyed seeing. I think the whole of the Netherlands. You felt very free on the island. On Winner’s Island you thought: I’ll just walk across the island in my Adam’s costume and make a splash.”

Timor then replies: “Yes, that’s right. Let me give you the background. Everyone wonders: are there cameras there all day? How does that work? You literally sit alone on that winner’s island for ten hours or eleven hours or more.”

Skinny dipping

Timor wanted to feel free. “At one point I thought: it’s my island right now and I’m just going to skinny dip and walk around as if it were my island. Then every now and then you see a boat coming and then you get dressed and sometimes they are setting up the cameras and then you don’t quite realize that they are already there.”

Farja: “You really didn’t know that filming was taking place at that moment?”

“Are you okay with it?”

Not at that moment, according to Timor. “Because you have those rocks and they always come from behind them: ‘Timor!’ Then you are called and then you get the moments that are captured, but they did ask me nicely: ‘Hey, are you okay with us filming this?’ I said: ‘Yes, as long as there is nothing to see here (points to trunk, ed.)… Buttocks don’t really matter to me.’”

Farja: “I think a lot of people thought it was a very beautiful moment. We enjoyed it.”
