Timo Boll wins the Champions League with Düsseldorf

Defending champion Borussia Düsseldorf has once again won the Table Tennis Champions League.

After the 3-0 win in the first leg at 1. FC Saarbrücken, two individual wins in the second semi-final were enough for the German record champions to qualify for a final that will no longer be played.

The European table tennis association ETTU also announced that it would also exclude all Russian clubs from international competitions because of the attack on Ukraine.

Since the two Russian representatives Fakel Orenburg and UMMC Jekaterinburg were in the second semi-final, the final victory now goes to the Düsseldorf team without a fight. Borussia won the Champions League for the seventh time. She was also successful six times in the previous competition, the European Champion Clubs’ Cup.

In the second leg of the semifinals, Patrick Franziska from Saarbrücken won the duel between the German national team and record European champion Timo Boll. But Dang Qiu (against Darko Jorgic) and Anton Källberg (against Tomas Polansky) scored the two points that Düsseldorf still needed to reach the final according to the new regulations.
