Tim Hofman released an episode of BOOS two weeks ago about the scandal surrounding former PvdA MP Gijs van Dijk, who resigned last year after reports of transgressive behaviour. According to Tim’s reconstruction, the former politician ‘regularly speaking falsehoods‘.

Spicy situation

It now appears that Fidan Ekiz is coming up with a program for Tim’s broadcaster, BNNVARA, in which more or less the side of Gijs is chosen: ‘Framed and Cancelled’. “In fact, he can tell his side of the story for an hour,” says media expert Lars Duursma in the podcast The Communicados.

He continues: “It leads to a spicy situation, because first you have BNNVARA’s hobbyhorse that portrays Gijs van Dijk as a pathological liar who has made many victims, and then you have another BNNVARA title that gives him the floor for an hour. late in a program about people (…) who are unjustly cancelled.”

Hitch

Co-host Victor Vlam thinks it’s very bad juicy. “So in one program he is portrayed as the perpetrator and in the other program as the victim.”

Lars: “But there is a hitch: BNNVARA is upset about it and partly because of this there is no definite broadcast date yet.”

Victor: “Tim Hofman is of course their big star and he has put his reputation quite on the line with that episode of BOOS about Gijs van Dijk and now that broadcast could possibly be denounced from his own clubhouse.”

Loss of face

Lars does not rule out Fidan’s program being thrown in the trash. “Yes, I think there is indeed a risk that it will mean loss of face for Tim Hofman.”

Victor: “Yes, and of course the management of BNNVARA wants to prevent their big star from getting damaged.”

He thinks it would be unfair if Fidan is cancelled. “Certainly if Tim Hofman has made mistakes, it should be negotiable.”

Tim responds

As Lars adds on Twitter that Tim and his team not amused would be, says an BOOS editor: “Lars come onwhat are you saying with your not amused hahaha.”

Tim himself: “We are very amused. (…) Haha, did you come and ask that afterwards, yes? In short: we stand behind what we have made. That’s it.”

He continues: “So we are two independent editors, and we are – again – one hundred percent behind what we have made. They need to know what the broadcaster does next.”
