Tim (17) was on his way home with his best friend on Tuesday evening, when a man called after them on Halvemaanstraat in Eindhoven. They turned around and saw him pulling a gun from his pocket. There was a shot in the air. Shortly before, they had asked the man if he was okay. “We were scared to death,” says Tim.
The boys had spent the evening at the Urban Sports Park. “We sit there every day with friends,” says Tim. “We don’t experience anything crazy. Only enforcement comes by every now and then to ask what we are doing, but that’s it.”
That was different on Tuesday evening. As they ride home on their scooter, a man on a bicycle meets them at the viaduct on Halvemaanstraat. “You could tell he was heavily under the influence,” says Tim. “His eyes were so big and light, it was as if he was staring straight into our souls. We asked, ‘Are you okay, sir?’ He gave him a thumbs up, so we moved on.”
Shortly afterwards they hear a loud ‘ey!’. “We looked around and saw that the man took a small firearm out of his pocket. He was messing around with it and half pointed it at us. We were shocked and thought: that must be a pellet gun. But then he shot in the air.”
“His light eyes in particular stood out. Anyone who met him would recognize him.”
The two friends quickly drive on. “Everything happened so quickly. There is a police station around the corner, where we rang the doorbell. The police came out immediately.” The man had already disappeared. “It was all very strange. We really didn’t say anything strange to him, we just asked if everything was okay.”
The police investigated the evidence and after the shooting went looking for the man, approximately 30 to 40 years old. He has a white complexion, is bald and was wearing black clothing that Tuesday evening. “His light eyes in particular stood out,” says Tim. “Anyone who met him would recognize him.” The police announced on Friday afternoon that the investigation is still ongoing and that no one has been arrested yet.
According to police, it appears that the man shot with an alarm pistol. “We were lucky,” Tim realizes. “I’m sure he didn’t shoot at us. I still dare to go back to that place. But if I see a light in the dark, I look out extra just to be sure.”
