Tiger Woods is after an accident in Jupiter Island, Florida, was charged with driving under the influence. Authorities say he rammed another vehicle on Friday (March 27), causing his Land Rover to roll over.

At a press conference at the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, an officer described what happened: Police were called to an accident on Friday involving a pickup truck with an attached pressure washer trailer and a Land Rover driven by Woods. Woods struck the rear of the trailer, causing his vehicle to overturn. He was arrested for driving under the influence causing property damage and refusing a lawful examination – Woods had refused a urine sample.

Authorities said Woods showed signs of impairment and was subjected to “extensive roadside sobriety tests.” He explained his previous injuries and operations and acted cooperatively. He took a breath alcohol test – the result was zero three times, according to the Sheriff’s Office – but he refused to take a urine sample. Woods and the other driver involved appeared uninjured, although the officer pointed out that the incident had only occurred a few hours ago. Woods was then held in custody and could only be released on bail after eight hours at the earliest.

No comment from Woods’ team

Woods’ spokespeople did not immediately respond to a request for comment from ROLLING STONE. It’s at least the third time the golf star has been involved in a car accident. In February 2021, his SUV left the road on a coastal road in Los Angeles – the accident resulted in multiple leg and ankle injuries. In May 2017, Woods was arrested near his home in Jupiter and charged with suspicion of drunken driving. Several medications were found on him that he said he took to treat pain after one of his seven back surgeries. Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving – in exchange for the charges being dropped.
