Tiësto donates proceeds to Breda youth

Tijs Verwest, aka DJ Tiësto, has donated his fee for the performance during Breda Live Friday evening to a good cause. With the money, 50,000 euros, 160 children can play sports or go to a music or dance school.

In his native city of Breda, Verwest presented the check for 50,000 euros to Youth Fund Sport and Culture Breda, which allows 2300 young people from poor families to play sports, dance and make music for free.

“I experienced it myself when I turned 18. Then all the money such as child benefit and alimony fell away, so I could not further develop my hobby and future. But luckily it turned out pretty well,” laughs the famous DJ, who is now lives in New York with many millions in his account.

But it could also have turned out very differently with Tijs Verwest. He grew up in the working-class area of Tuinzigt. “You come into contact with all kinds of people there, with good and less good intentions. And then you come to that middle path where you have to choose the good or the bad side. The club you are on – the coach – can then help a lot to choose the right path,” he explains.

“Winning together, losing together, building self-confidence. You want to give every child that chance.”

Youth Fund Sport and Culture Breda now ensures that about 2300 young people can practice their hobby for free or cheaper. Tiësto’s donation will add another 160 young people.

“In Breda, about one in nine children cannot attend a sports club because the parents cannot afford it. We are talking about about 3,500 young people, which is quite a lot. And that number is increasing further due to the current price increases,” he says. Jeroen Meeuwissen. He is chairman of the youth fund

Meeuwissen is very happy with the donation from Tijs Verwest. “That money goes directly to the 160 children who can now participate and develop. Winning together, losing together, building self-confidence. You want to give every child that chance.”
