Black market dealers are selling tickets for Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” tour in America for up to $3,000. The American ROLLING STONE reports on this. The presale for the first shows in the USA does not start until today, February 3rd. Tickets for further dates will be released in the days after. How can that be?

This tactic is called speculative ticketing and has been around for some time. In addition to Beyoncé, Fall Out Boy, for example, are also affected. Their tickets are also offered up front for extremely high prices on sites like StubHub, VividSeats and SeatGeek. Black market traders speculate on pre-sale tickets for the shows, which they then resell. Of course, they put the difference between the purchase price and the resale price in their own pockets. They often offer “zone seats”, which means that the actual seat is not specified. This offers more scope to find tickets in a specific area of the event location. If the resellers cannot find a ticket, the big resale platforms usually refund the customers.

Speculative ticketing has been criticized for misleading buyers. It appears that the resellers have already received the card in advance. This also leads to more animosity towards regular providers such as Ticketmaster, “when fans blame the company for selling scalpers,” as the US colleagues write. There is no uniform legislation on this problem in the USA. However, solutions are being sought to make the ticket market more transparent and fairer.

Beyoncé is also coming to Germany for three concerts on her world tour. Advance sales for the shows in Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg and Cologne start on February 10 at 10 a.m.
