The THW Kiel won its first game in the new season of the handball Bundesliga. The team of coach Filip Jicha won on Thursday evening after a significant increase in performance at HC Erlangen with 31:29 (12:13).

Five days after the dramatic defeat in the Supercup against the Füchse Berlin, the “zebras” needed a good start for success in the Franks. Because the THW lacked ideas and consistency in the attack, especially in the first round. Although not everything could be done in the second half, the improved game earned the Kieler the opening success. The best Kiel thrower was Emil Madsen with eight goals.

After the game, Rune Dahmke was “very satisfied with the two points”. The captain said that the team “fought” in a “typical first game” despite the problems at the beginning. The German record champions will continue next Wednesday (September 3, 7 p.m.) with a home game against Wetzlar.

A handball lies in the torn network.

Caps dominate- THW attack long harmless

Defensive, the Jicha team in Erlangen under the eyes of the soccer world champion Manuel Neuer and Miroslav Klose continued exactly where it had stopped in the Supercup against the foxes: the cover was nimble on his feet and made it difficult for the hosts to work out clear opportunities. And got through, at least at the beginning goalkeeper Andreas Wolff. The HCE only scored the first goal in the sixth minute.

However, since it was anything but “clicked” at the THW almost over the entire first half in the attack, the game was completely open – the Schleswig -Holsteiners led 4: 3 after ten minutes. However, the longer the game lasted, the more the underdog from Franconia swam and achieved his first lead of the game in the 14th minute (6: 5). And the Erlangen really liked them: Sander Andreassen Överjuret scored the 10: 7 (21st) after a wonderful Kempa trick.

It was only in the final minutes of passage one that the “zebras” on the offensive were increasingly in speed and processes. And in cover they pushed forward significantly further and conquered many balls. The reward: until the break, they shortened to 12:13.

Significant increase in performance of the Kiel

The THW kept this “flow” alive even after the restart: with a 4-0 run, the Kielers set off to 18:14. Elias Ellefsen á Skipagötu hit after a quick counterattack (37th). In this phase, the team finally played like a favorite: aggressively in defense and consistently in attack.

However, the HC did not let an interim five-goal deficit (15:20) not scare, continued to fight and came closer again in the following minutes (20:22, 44.). On the one hand, this succeeded because the HCE goalkeeper Khalifa Ghedbane and Dario Quenstedt showed both strong parades. And because the THW, on the other hand, did not get a good game from national goalkeeper Wolff this evening (four parades, 14 percent held balls).

Leon Nowottny came in for him and prevented the hosts from gaining a goal at the stand of 29:27 with a strong parade. And at the front, the Kielers were able to rely on Madsen and Ellefsen á Skipagötu, who kept the distance and thus caused great cheering fans.
