Zagreb imposes wild game on THW

The THW came into play well in the Croatian capital. Domagoj Duvnjak scored to 3:1 (5th), Pavel Horak to 5:2 (8th). However, the “Zebras” got involved in a wild game – and initially only Zagreb kept a cool head. Ivan Cupic equalized in the 13th minute to make it 6:6. And just when Kiel were outnumbered, David Mandic scored twice after losing the ball slightly with a counterattack – the home side led 9:6 (16th).

But Zagreb also showed nerves. After the next ball loss by THW, Luka Klarica threw from the center line onto the empty goal – over. Ujnd Patrick Wiencek then shortened the lead to 10:11 (24th minute) from Kiel’s point of view. But this was still not the hello-wake for the Schleswig-Holsteiners. At the break they were again three goals behind.

Kiel has to fight and is doing it

Kiel had to improve – and apparently coach Jicha found the right words. Attacks were smoother now. And Dario Quenstedt became a factor: the THW goalkeeper parried four shots in a row – and on the other side all shots were possible. Hendrik Pekeler put THW back in the lead in the 40th minute (19:18).

But Zagreb caught itself and withstood the Kielers when they tried it with an additional field player and Pekeler and Wiencek together on the circle. In addition, there were misses by Duvnjak, who missed the empty goal when the score was 20:19 (43 rd ), and a few referee decisions that almost drove Jicha to insanity. But in the end, the people of Kiel cheered. Thanks be to Reinkind.
