THW Kiel celebrates victory against Szeged

The German handball record champion THW Kiel has returned to the road to success in the Champions League.

A week after the first bankruptcy of the season in Celje, coach Filip Jicha’s team finally won 34:29 (15:14) against the Hungarian champions Pick Szeged and scored their second success in group B in the third CL game.

Kiel, who are still flawless in the Bundesliga, pulled away with three goals in the middle of the first half, but the Hungarians, who were still pointless, then held back strongly. In the second half, the Zebras turned up the heat and had outstanding support in goalkeeper Tomas Mrkva (17 saves). The best thrower from Kiel was Niclas Ekberg with six goals.

In his 25th participation in the Champions League, Kiel is aiming to reach the Final Four, which will take place on June 17th and 18th, 2023 in Cologne. The German champions SC Magdeburg learned a lot on Wednesday at 10:29 p.m. against the star ensemble from Paris St. Germain.
