Thunderous surprises in the World Cup selection: Amsterdammers Simons and Frimpong to Qatar, Clasie and Van de Ven not

National coach Louis van Gaal has announced the final World Cup selection of the Dutch national team today. There is room for, among others, Amsterdammers Xavi Simons and Jeremie Frimpong and Ajax keeper Remko Pasveer. AZ player Jordy Clasie and Micky van de Ven from Wormer are not among them.

Ajax players Brian Brobbey and Devyne Rensch will also stay at home during the tournament in Qatar. That also applies to former goalkeeper of Ajax Jasper Cillessen.

National coach Van Gaal had included 39 players in his pre-selection for the tournament in Qatar at the end of October. In the end, 25 players get on the plane, causing 14 to drop out. North Hollanders Guus Til, Ryan Gravenberch, Sven Botman, Micky van de Ven and Mitchel Bakker, among others, have to follow the World Cup before the tube.
