Haarlemmer Jeffrey van den B. was tried in the Haarlem court on February 10 of this year. He was suspected of fourteen criminal offenses, involving eight victims. Two victims between the ages of twelve and sixteen were raped by him. According to the court, most other victims involved ‘sex chatting’ and ‘sexually corrupting’ the minors.
These involved children from North Brabant, Limburg and Drenthe. The man took images of his victims and then distributed them. He also threatened two minors with death. This happened via social media. The last offense for which he was tried is the possession of a large amount of child pornography between 2013 and 2024.
Reduced accountability
Psychiatric examination of the Haarlemmer shows that he has a mild intellectual disability, ADHD and an autistic disorder. That is why, according to experts, he is less accountable. The report also shows that the chance of recurrence is high.
Two weeks ago, the public prosecutor demanded a three-year prison sentence and TBS with conditions against the man. The judges accepted this demand because he had committed a large number of serious sexual crimes. In addition, he actively searched for vulnerable girls via social media. He pretended to be sixteen years old himself.
Damages
The Haarlemmer has been sentenced to three years in prison, minus pre-trial detention. After his prison sentence, he must undergo treatment in a healthcare institution. He is not allowed to make contact with his victims and must avoid contact with minors. He must also pay compensation to five victims. In total this amounts to almost 20,000 euros.
